In 1975, at the age of 14, Mitchell G. Wynn became a member of Mt. Olive Church of Christ (D.O.C.) in Hertford, NC.
Fourteen years later, in 1989, he became a walking Deacon at that same church. He was ordained as a Deacon by Elder James Palmer in 1990. Two years later, Elder Mitchell G. Wynn was called by the Spirit to relocate his family to Middletown, CT where he became a member of the Thomas Chapel Church of Christ in New Haven, CT and joined their Deacon Board.
Mt. Olive Church - Small Beginnings…
Four years later, on November 6th, 1996 he was called by the Holy Spirit to preach God’s word.
Early in March 1997, he started an outreach ministry at the Lake Grove Juvenile Detention Facility in Durham, CT. At the same time, he started a home Bible study among his own family with his wife and three sons. In September of 1997, his aunt called and asked if he would have Bible study at her home. Bible Study started and continued at her home for one year. On September 27th, 1998, Mt. Olive Church of Christ (D.O.C.) officially began our traditional church services every Sunday morning.
November of 1998 was a busy month for Mt. Olive Church. We filed for our 501cstatus and incorporation. We also moved our services to a relative’s house on Wall Street in Middletown, CT.
On December 13th, 1998 Mt. Olive Church relocated to Wright's Barber Shop at 207 East Main Street Middletown, CT. Shortly afterward, on February 21st, 1999, we relocated to Wesleyan University Memorial Chapel.
Officially A Church!
On April 11th, 1999, we had our first communion.
On April 18th, 1999, we held our first business meeting and on August 25th, 1999 Mt. Olive Church received its (501c3) approval.
On May 27th, 2001, we relocated our church to 219 Main Street in Middletown, CT. We held our services there until November 2006.
A Permanent Location
In November of 2006, we moved to 695 South Main Street in Middletown, CT. We believe we have found a permanent location that we can finally call home. We have an amazing vision for the community of Middletown Connecticut in our South Main Street location and hope you will consider visiting us here.
